DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Wellbeing, Care, Access, and Crises:
Serves as a visible, reliable, accessible, and well-known point of contact for faculty, staff, and students on all matters pertaining to student crises, emergencies, and support.
Lead campus response to emergencies and crisis situations involving students. This may sometimes include after hours and weekend responsibilities.
Chairs the multidisciplinary Students of Concern Team (SOCT) - Ensures team members are properly trained; conducts outreach and education regarding SOCT to faculty, staff, and students; prepares presentations, reports, and data related to SOCT functions; maintains Maxient database.
Member of high-profile campus committees and teams, including Threat Management Team, Protest Management Team, Campus Climate Reporting Team, and others as designated.
Serves as University Representative on the Board of Directors for Associated Students Incorporated (ASI).
Builds and maintains positive relationships with ASI student leaders, ASI Executive Director, and other ASI professionals.
Provides on the ground support during student protests and activism activities.
Cultivates, builds, and maintains relationships with student activists and their advisors.
Meets with students and families who express concerns on behalf of the President.
Consults with faculty and staff on student issues and conducts outreach and education on matters pertaining to student wellbeing and support.
Management and Supervision:
Provides vision, strategic direction and supervision for a portfolio that includes Student Affairs Case Management, basic needs services, and student conduct.
Guides, supports, leads, and evaluates unit managers.
Ensures portfolio compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations, as well as engagement in student success assessment, program reviews, quality improvements, and the implementation of new technologies.
Establish, maintain and monitor budget and resource management; write proposals to enhance resources.
Monitors policy development and application in each of the overseen units; evaluates and discusses with University administration any policy concerns revealed by direct reports, particularly those with broad institutional implications and/or relating to students. Provides oversight regarding the quality of the student experience and successful programming across multiple departments.
Ensure that activities developed, implemented, and assessed are in alignment with the purpose of increasing student retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
Actively engages in the Division of Student Affairs' diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging activities, initiatives, and on-going education opportunities.
Ensures all staff within portfolio engage in DEIB education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree - Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Development / Student Affairs or related field
Five (5) years of professional experience supervising, leading and managing a complex organization with strong leadership skills engaging campus constituents and supporting student growth and development.
Two (2) years experience supervising a multi-departmental portfolio that demonstrates effective personnel management, negotiation, public speaking and relationship building skills. Experience leading behavioral intervention teams and serving as decision-maker during student crises.
Innovative use of technology and competency in building and analyzing data of all types for decision-making purposes.
A competitive candidate will be an experienced, creative, compassionate, proven leader who has solid operational knowledge of, and demonstrated success in leading and managing the major elements of the Deputy Dean of Students portfolio.
Candidates for this position will also possess a strong knowledge of and experience implementing best practices, as well as demonstrated leadership ability in working with a range of professional staff, faculty, parents and guardians, senior administrative colleagues, other campus constituents and external organizations.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will perform at the advanced level in the ten Professional Competency areas for Student Affairs Educators as outlined by ACPA and NASPA.
Direct experience adjudicating student conduct cases.
Experience managing in a collective bargaining environment.
