THE DEPARTMENT
The Student Innovation Idea Lab (SIIL) supports student inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs. It is a resource for students and faculty on the campus and for our surrounding business community, stimulating innovation, technology development, and creativity primarily to support the workforce development of our students, but also to foster transfer and commercialization of their projects. It supports innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial student projects. The experience students obtain in developing their projects will be of great benefit to them by developing a resilient steadiness and growth mindset in our students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Function as the administrative lead for the SIIL, including completing HR processes to hire and on-board student assistant staff; tracking and reviewing student timecards; managing student staff and volunteer schedules; with the faculty director manage budget, purchases and ensuring adherence to CPP (Cal Poly Pomona) policies including providing running budget progress; prepare and coordinate travel documentation for SIIL-related travel; manage equipment maintenance and repair schedules and consumable inventory with the student assistant staff.
Coordinate and create programming associated with the SIIL mission. This includes organizing safety training protocol, training workshops, securing guest speakers and lecturers and giving presentations; supporting summer programming for CPP and the boarder public; supporting the director in mentoring staff and developing relationships with industry and alumni partners to provide mentorship; and other duties related to supporting the director in their duties.
Develop relationships internal to CPP with other departments across the university, individual faculty, student clubs and teams with the objective of building a mutually supportive network
Develop relationships external to CPP with other institutions and industry partners that align with SIIL values and mission
Coordinate activities with other offices within Academic Innovation; supporting (where capacity permits) other offices with their administrative tasks
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED - and
DL NUMBER - Driver License, valid and in-state
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in general office clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent.
Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures; thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling; thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use broader range of technology, systems, and software packages; ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to:
Apply a variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.
Perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections.
Draft and compose correspondence and standard reports.
Handle effectively a broader range of interpersonal contacts including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year of administrative work experience in entrepreneurial/small business/project management experience, in education, health care, design services, manufacturing or event planning; demonstrated knowledge of CPP and Cal State University system bureaucracy.
Ability to:
Work closely with students and work across departments, colleges and multiple organizational units.
Plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
Anticipate problems and address them proactively.
Effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or oral form.
Enter data and track information in a spreadsheet.
Skill in research, collection, evaluation and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications.
Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis techniques.
Thorough knowledge of English grammar and ability to effectively convey ideas in writing to audiences across campus and with external partners.

CSU Classification Salary Range
This position is part of the (UNION) bargaining unit 7. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website.The CSU Salary Schedule is located on theCSU Salary Schedule website . The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $3,864 and maximum $6,072 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.
