THE DEPARTMENT:
The College of Education and Integrative Studies (CEIS) is one of eight academic colleges at Cal Poly Pomona. The college provides credential, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs that prepare students as professionals in education, early childhood studies, social and public service, and other interdisciplinary fields. The College offers opportunities for students to establish meaningful relationships with the institution, schools and organizations in which they work, and surrounding communities through internships, field placements, clinical practice opportunities, and service learning. CEIS consists of the Departments of a) Early Childhood Studies which includes six options; b) Education which includes Education Specialist, Multiple Subject, and Single Subject credentials and master's programs; c) Educational Leadership which includes the Preliminary Administrative Services credential and the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program in PK-12 Educational Leadership or Community College and Postsecondary Education; and d) Liberal Studies which includes the Interdisciplinary General Education Program. Additionally, the College encompasses the Student Success Center, Credential Services and Clinical Placement Offices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Program Oversight Summary:
This set of responsibilities focuses on the management and support of the college's academic programs, including undergraduate, credential, and graduate programs. Responsibilities include overseeing curriculum consultation processes, supporting faculty in maintaining quality instruction, and managing the day-to-day operations of the college to ensure effective functioning. Provide management support for planning, delivering, and maintenance of the undergraduate, credential, master's, and doctoral programs; Oversee and coordinate the review and curriculum consultation processes and implementation of curricular elements in the college, including course/program revisions, new course proposals, and new degree/concentration proposals; Serve as an ex-officio member on the Curriculum Committee; Serve as an ex-officio member on the Assessment Committee; Serve as a primary point of contact for facilitating scholarship reviews and processes, as well as refinement of processes where necessary; Provide managerial support to faculty and Department Chairs to sustain quality instruction in all educational activities; Support evaluative processes of faculty for the purposes of maintaining high-quality instruction in all educational activities; Support and review departmental course scheduling; Oversee day-to-day operations of the College, including supporting the effectiveness of faculty, staff, and students in their roles; Promote effective functioning of various college committees and activities pertaining but not limited to accreditation and continuous improvement, assessment, program review, student appeals, grievance, curriculum, and budget; Provide managerial support of processes, policies, and procedures and promotes the effectiveness of the Credential Services and Clinical Placement Offices.
Staff Supervision and Development Summary:
This set of responsibilities involves managing staff-related processes within the college, including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional development. The Associate Dean coordinates with HR on staff issues, participates in hiring committees, and oversees the fiscal and personnel management in collaboration with the Dean. Serve as HEERA manager for staff including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and development; Develop and maintain staff position descriptions, conduct annual evaluations and periodic reviews, and manage staff development; Allocate work and supervise office staff on a day-to-day basis; Liaise with HR on staff issues; Participate in department staff hiring committees in the college; Coordinate with Dean on fiscal and personnel management of the College and serves as additional reviewer and signature authority on all fiscal accounts. Serve as the lead for the CEIS Student Success Advising Center and partner with the Office of Student Success to provide oversight of center's staff; Oversee the college computer and related labs; Coordinate College technology infrastructure and support services provided by IT; Provide support in the management of all college grants and contracts.
Student Success and Support Summary:
This set of responsibilities encompasses efforts to support and enhance student success, including coordination of advising, orientation programs, and student retention initiatives. Responsibilities include overseeing Fall Convocation, addressing student grievances, and working with various stakeholders to resolve student-related issues and disciplinary matters. Coordinates and provides leadership designed to integrate the College's Student Success Center team; in partnership with the Office of Student Success and the Associate Vice President for Student Success. Provide oversight of activities, initiatives, and services designed to bolster persistence, increase graduation rates, and eliminate opportunity gaps with an explicit focus on students from underrepresented groups and students who are Pell-eligible; Utilize cross-divisional resources to support student success and timely graduation inclusive of GI 2025 efforts and related CSU Chancellor's Office initiatives; Coordinate and apply leadership skills aimed at the effective integration of the College's Student Success Center team and advising services; In partnership with the Office of Student Success, coordinates and oversees advising in various areas of the College; Serve as the lead for the CEIS Student Success Advising Center and partner with the Office of Student Success to provide oversight of center's staff; Supervise and support Department Chairs and staff in orientation and advising processes including freshmen, transfer, parent, and summer orientations; Oversee Fall Convocation and collaborate on College's Fall Conference to facilitate a strong foundation and connection for students, staff, and faculty; Collaborate with Department Chairs and staff to design and implement student outreach, recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities; Supervise, manage, and support the College commencement ceremony and Credential Celebration in conjunction with University and College-level committees and directives; Review and process academic petitions and works with Department Chairs in addressing student grievances, issues, and related student matters; Facilitate and sign student undergraduate and graduate petitions; Monitor and facilitate enrollment planning, student recruitment, student retention and student advisement efforts; Work with Department Chairs, Coordinator of Credential Services, and advisors in actively resolving complaints and concerns from students and/or parents; When elevated to the Dean's Office, serve as the primary point of contact in working to resolve complaints and concerns; Works with the Associate Vice President for Student Success, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Students, and respective stakeholders on student/faculty disputes; Address and act on disciplinary matters relating to students; Evaluate and act on appeals from students; Advise students as needed including consulting on the advisement of academic plans and pre-professional pathways; Serve as an advocate for students and communicates student concerns to relevant parties.
Accreditation and Process Improvement Summary:
This set of responsibilities involves supporting the college's accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts. Responsibilities include coordinating stakeholder involvement in accreditation activities, participating in program review processes, and ensuring ongoing quality assurance in educational programs. Additionally, the position supports the Dean in fostering a positive college culture and improving systems efficiency and processes. This includes assisting with college-level priorities and initiatives aimed at enhancing overall effectiveness and collaboration within the college. Provide leadership and oversight of accreditation, assessment, continuous improvement, and program review activities; Support coordination and effective functioning of accreditation unit and stakeholder involvement strategies including TK-12 district partner meetings.
College Representation and Outreach Summary:
This set of responsibilities focuses on representing the Dean and the college within the university and the broader community. The Associate Dean engages in leadership roles across the university, collaborates on student recruitment and retention events, and works closely with department chairs to enhance community engagement. Represent the Dean and College to the University and in the broader community; Interact with the University-wide community in a variety of leadership capacities; Work closely with the Dean on College culture, systems efficiency, and process improvement; Oversee College-level priorities and Dean's Office initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned doctorate appropriate to the mission of the College and a combination of evidence of effective teaching, research, and scholarship
Driver License, Valid and in State Valid California driver's license, own automobile with valid insurance.
5 years experience in successful collegial work and interaction within a team-oriented environment; 5 years experience or showing the ability to take a College focus; 5 years of experience in effective time and organizational management; 5 years experience of involvement and active service with the external community, governmental agencies, nonprofit and/or professional organizations Required and

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Four or more years of substantial administrative experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position;
At least one year of experience as a Department Chair;
Experience writing annual reports and accreditation self-studies; Experience working in and with public schools, an understanding of educational reform strategies; and recent knowledge of California and national policies, standards, and regulations related to accreditation and educator credentials and licensing; Comfortable dealing with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators under multiple types of situations; Ability to represent the Dean's Office and the Dean in such a way as to garner goodwill for the Dean and college within and outside of the university; Strong pedagogy understanding and scholarly values Knowledge of and experience working across disciplines and with interdisciplinary programs.
