THE DEPARTMENT:
Student Health and Wellness Services (SHWS) is one component within the Division of Student Affairs. The mission of Student Health and Wellness Services is to promote students' healthy lifestyles and academic success by providing quality medical, psychological, and wellness services. The department provides ambulatory health care, health education programs, prevention, and healing services to students of Cal Poly Pomona.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the Division of Student Affairs Philosophy Statement and the Mission Statement and goals of Student Health and Wellness Services at all times.
Ability to establish priorities and respond efficiently and calmly in emergency situations. Analyze the clinic schedule to meet patient needs and make decisions that contribute to efficient clinic operations and patient flow. Acting as a resource for clinical staff, exercises independent judgment and discretion regarding daily operations, procedures, and utilization of resources.
Provides quality, student centered patient care in accordance with Student Health Services policies and procedures. Possesses nursing skills and knowledge to triage all patients and identify those who require immediate medical intervention.
Coordinate with providers when additional resources such as emergency services, crisis counselors, Survivor Advocate or Campus Police are needed.
Provides nursing assessment, observation, and intervention in any patient care area of Student Health Services.
Maintains an inventory of medical and surgical supplies for assigned station; stocking of supplies, equipment and medication required to carry out clinician orders. Daily cleaning and stocking of supplies in examination rooms and nurse's station.
Documents the nursing assessment, appropriate vital signs and evaluates the need for laboratory tests and/or x-rays prior to clinician examination.
Prepares the patient and assists the clinician with examination and procedures. Carries out clinician's orders for diagnostic tests, procedures, and administration of medications. Administer allergy injections.
Start and maintain IV lines and fluids to acutely ill students.
Documents all nursing interventions in the medical record. Provides all immunizations offered by Student Health Services.
Acts as a liaison between other nursing staff, medical records, providers, and front desk staff to ensure patient rights of privacy, safety and confidentiality.
Assists in the development and implementation of nursing services, policies and procedures.
May assign tasks to and review the work of clinic support staff within their scope of practice; performs lead duties for the nursing staff in the absence of the RN Ill and other duties as assigned.
Participates in Nursing Quality Management and Improvement Program. Serves on Student Health Services Committees as designated by the Director.
Participates in disaster planning and drills. Assists in providing services to the campus community for any functions associated with Student Health Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Required and BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED
One year of professional nursing experience which has provided evidence of the ability to work independently in specialized nursing activities and to support the overall nursing program within the Student Health Center; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Abilities (RN II): Ability to effectively apply nursing knowledge and demonstrate proper techniques and skills in performing nursing duties; accurately observe and record symptoms, behaviors, and reactions to treatments in order to make a nursing diagnosis; respond with therapy to treatment reactions; use applicable health center automated systems to perform duties and maintain records and prepare reports; gain the cooperation of patients; analyze emergency situations and take prompt action; maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge (RN II): In addition to those of the Registered Nurse I, possess broader and specialized nursing knowledge that supports the performance of specialized duties in such areas as, but not limited to, triage and assessment, patient counseling, and staffing specialized nursing clinics; broader knowledge of clinic operations and the development and implementation of a nursing program, including procedures and protocols.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3 - 5 years of nursing experience in college health, ambulatory care or acute care hospital.

CSU Classification Salary Range
This position is part of the CSUEU bargaining unit 2, the CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the following site, https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/careers/compensation/Pages/Classification-Standards.aspx. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the following site:https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/careers/compensation/Pages/salary-schedule-documents.aspx . The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is minimum $4,816 and maximum $9,293 per month.
